Cooking with Kevin and Susan January 09

So for Christmas Kevin bought me 4 of the Gordon Ramsay Cookbooks (the guy from Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares). I love him. Anyway, we decided that once a month we would go pick a recipe out of a book and then go to the grocery store and then cook the meal together. So in January, we went to the grocery store with the recipe of spaghetti with lobster. We had a few issues with not knowing what some of the items were and many people have laughed at us since when telling the story. So we went to the meat counter to get the lobster, at the same time we ask the lady if the have any scallions in right now. She looks in the back and comes back and says that maybe sometime this week they will get them. So I told Kevin we'd have to go to a different store to get them. So on we went in the first grocery store and we get to the wine. Ok, so we have no idea what DRY wine to buy or what IS a dry wine, so Kevin called his mom. Chuck ended up helping us and we got a Pignot Noir. I still have no idea if this was the best choice or not but it worked. So we got the rest of the items and then rushed to Bel Air's meat counter to ask if they had any scallions in, he looked at us kind of funny and said that in the year and a half that he has been working there that he had never seen those. So a lightbulb finally went off in my head that just maybe it was produce. So off we go to the other end of the store, where we find Ken in produce. We tell him what we are looking for and he says very quickly "oh yeah, that's green onions!" So we tell him the story and he laughs at us of course, who wouldn't. So the moral of my story is that you always need to research the items in your recipe before you go to the store (or two stores) and make a complete fool of yourself. Anyway we came home and made the dish together and had a really great time and really enjoyed the dish. Since I update my blog in massive sections, we have already cooked the Spaghetti 2 more times for different people. Each time it seems to get better.
