Cooking with Kevin and Susan January 09
So for Christmas Kevin bought me 4 of the Gordon Ramsay Cookbooks (the guy from Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares). I love him. Anyway, we decided that once a month we would go pick a recipe out of a book and then go to the grocery store and then cook the meal together. So in January, we went to the grocery store with the recipe of spaghetti with lobster. We had a few issues with not knowing what some of the items were and many people have laughed at us since when telling the story. So we went to the meat counter to get the lobster, at the same time we ask the lady if the have any scallions in right now. She looks in the back and comes back and says that maybe sometime this week they will get them. So I told Kevin we'd have to go to a different store to get them. So on we went in the first grocery store and we get to the wine. Ok, so we have no idea what DRY wine to buy or what IS a dry wine, so Kevin called his mom. Chuck ended up helping us and we got a Pignot Noir. I still have no idea if this was the best choice or not but it worked. So we got the rest of the items and then rushed to Bel Air's meat counter to ask if they had any scallions in, he looked at us kind of funny and said that in the year and a half that he has been working there that he had never seen those. So a lightbulb finally went off in my head that just maybe it was produce. So off we go to the other end of the store, where we find Ken in produce. We tell him what we are looking for and he says very quickly "oh yeah, that's green onions!" So we tell him the story and he laughs at us of course, who wouldn't. So the moral of my story is that you always need to research the items in your recipe before you go to the store (or two stores) and make a complete fool of yourself. Anyway we came home and made the dish together and had a really great time and really enjoyed the dish. Since I update my blog in massive sections, we have already cooked the Spaghetti 2 more times for different people. Each time it seems to get better.
Carly and Elly 1-25-09
Kevin's New Tattoo 1-23-09
Elly 1-20-09
Yes, Elly still continues to be the hamster of our eye. She is the cutest little thing and is so calm and nice. We take her out all the time to hold her and so far she ahs not got mad at us for waking her during her shut eye hours. I think that she is somewhat used to the fact and has just resigned herself to the fact that she is not going to get sleep unless we aren't home.
Professional Bull Riders Rodeo 1-18-09
So Carly and I wanted to see a PBR, we watch it on TV ocassionally and Kevin has to tell us what everything is, so we found out that they were coming to town and we got tickets to go see the PBR. We arrived at Arco Arena not knowing what to expect (at least Carly and I didn't. We decided to walk around the concourse before it started to see what they had and to get some food. We ended up running into Jeanne Strong (a family friend) and her son does PR for the PBR. So she ended up getting her son to give us a backstage tour before the show. It was so cool to see where all the bulls were and the chutes. Some of the cowboys had come out as well so Carly was fortunate enough to get soem pictures with them before the show. The show was amazing and we were in awe of everything that happens during the show. At the end the cowboys come out and sign autographs. So of course we waited for Carly to get all of their signatures. We had bought her a white hat at the beginning, but by the end it was no longer white(too many signatures). It was a blast for all of us.
Carly's Winter Homecoming 1-17-09
So for Carly's Winter Homecoming, her date was Grant(a friend of hers). As it turns out, I went to school with both his mom and dad. Small world. Anyway, the went to Chevy's for dinner and has a blast. Then there chaffuer (me) took them to the dance. The had a really great time there as well. I heard a lot of good feedback in the car on the way home (inlike some of the other dances). So it was all good. Of course Carly looked smokin hot in her dress that we purchased while we were in San Francisco at Christmastime. She looked so grown up (that quote actually came from her sister)

Carly's New Bedroom 1-10-09
So I have been promising Carly new bedroom furniture for a few months, but everytime that we go out to look for it, neither one of us is willing to give in to what each of us wants from the furniture. So we decided that today was the day we were heading towards Roseville and we were stopping at all the places that we could find along the way. We stopped at American Galleries on Mack Rd (7 miles from our house). We walked in and saw one that we both could live with, bought it and left. The sales lady was a little shocked. Oh well. So Carly and I came home and gutted her room of all the furniture. She had boxed everything up and stuck it into Nikki's old room and gave herself just enough room to get to and from Nikki's bed, where she would be sleeping for the next couple of nights. The next morning Kevin and I started painting it and on Monday the furniture was delivered. Her room looks so nice and she has so much more room in it now with the smaller bed. She loves it. We are still however working on getting all the pictures put back on the wall. I will post pictures of that when we have completed.
Escalade got broken into 1-9-09
So my cursed vehicle yet again has issues. I have been parking it at the shop and not driving it, but unfortunately I had not taken it back from the holiday use. We had a guy call on it off of craig's list and wanted to come by and take a look at it. Kevin happened to be meeting a friend at our house and so he gave this guy our home address. Of course the guy never showed and the next night it was broken into. It was a very clean job and he was very careful in getting the monitors out of the head rests. Unfortunately he did NOT take the car and only did minimal damage that yet again wasn't worth turning it into insurance. So back to the shop it went, straight from the shop that replaced the window.
Our pathetic Dogs 1-7-09
Delta and Bella are very pathetic dogs. Delta recently has been standing on the firewood near the kitchen so that she can look into the kitchen window. So every once in a while she catches me off guard and startles me. Of course after I am done cursing her, I look at her and she looks so pathetic.
Then there is Bella, obviously height deficient, so she can not see into the kitchen window at all, she just waits for you to notice Delta and then you can see her wagging her tail. Sometimes when I look out the window she is stretching, which to me looks like she is bowing to me...... AHHHHH what pathetic little dogs they are, but we wouldn't trade them for the world.
